18th Century wargaming weekend Kenilworth 2019

Post by Willz the Wargamer »

The annual get together of the “Wild Geese Wargames Group” in Kenilworth, Warwickshire last weekend 21 – 23rd June. This is a very loose amalgam of gentlemen wargamers that has morphed out of John Ray’s “A Military Gentleman of the 18th Century” Forum but still keeps its emphasis on broadly 18th century wargaming themes with a high quality of presentation. It’s a visual delight every year and with 5 games on offer this year. Another year of excellent company, food, drink and wargaming.

I put on “Homage to Sittangbad” 18th century game using Spencer Smith Miniatures and “Jim Purky’s one page rules”. My armies were Prussian / Savoy against French / Tiberian.

4 games were played over the 2 days, the Tiberians had to retrieve and retire the Royal pay chests and wagons of war stores. Whilst the Prussians objective was to capture the pay chests and wagons.
I will not do a blow by blow account of each battle just a selection of photo’s explaining the highlights of the actions and give the overall feel of the games. These photo’s were taken from the second game late Saturday afternoon, I have added some some for dramatic effect.

Chris Gregg over on “Not just old school wargaming” has wrote an excelllent report on the first battle. Well worth a visit and he has some excellent military art work on display. All these blog links are worth a visit if you want to read more about the “Wild Geese” weekend.

Having popped in on the Sunday (wife and #1 son were visiting Kenilworth Castle), I can vouch for Willz comments about the quality of the games, the company, and the venue. I have already put my name down for the entire weekend next year (although this may mean they have to re-think the "gentlemen" wargamers label.....).

That's seriously cool, Willz. You have a mind blowing collection. I'm not sure the chaps on this forum have seen what you've done with the basic Warrior 1745 figures?
