Re: Festive Figure Fun Fhread

Hmmm nice port, rich stilton fine christmas cake, reminds me, mine needs its marzipan doint this week, snow blizzard outside, heating and my freshly painted macedonians crushing all before them. A chilled Rose, followed by a Pinot (not too heavy), a selection of salads & cold seafood with a pavlova...

Re: Gilly

so made a load of sabot bases that I find a godsend in larger games I'll try and post a photo later but post image is currently down That might well be a neat solution: I look forward to seeing a photo or two. Being a man of strong passions, I can confidently state that even after only 4 games of G...

Re: Paper flags

You ask a question & you get a bunch of conflicting replies. I guess what else can you expect from a wargames' forum. You know the rules mate - ask ten different wargamers the same question, and you'll get at least eleven different replies. And that's the charm of gamers. We may be weird. We...

Re: Gilly

BTW Combat.

The FoG rules have combat in 2 phases: Impact & Melee.

And so does Gd'A.......Charge & Melee. Minor point but if this fact was clearly stated (in an otherwise very lucid rule set), it would stop some confusion.

Re: Gilly

VB, we're just using our old ELAN (which is a modification of WRG) basing. Infantry (4 figs.) usually on a strip 60x20, cavalry (3 figs) 60x30 etc. Re-basing is out of the question but if I was to do it, I'd prefer the 40x40 (with 4 figs in 2 lines) that we use in our SYW games. The figure ratio is ...

Re: Paper flags

You ask a question & you get a bunch of conflicting replies. I guess what else can you expect from a wargames' forum. @ Vexilla. I do use the $10 grand laser printer at work for my flags. The result is pleasing. OK, I'll hoy down to the LHS & buy a matte varnish (testors or humbrol: whatever ...

That’s a fiver you owe the Varnish Thread Box Donald.
Damn it. Another blunder. That's what happens when you're the Newest Member (still 76, see below). I don't know squat.

....where might this bespoke varnish thread be?

Paper flags

The last thing I'll add to a figure is the store-bought or photocopied paper flag. It was brought to my attention that some/many/all people actually varnish these (with a matt, I assume). Is this so? Why? What brand of varnish should I use to varnish flags retroactively if it's worthwhile (*not* spr...

Gilly

The first of our Waterloo Campaign battles was fought to a conclusion today, using the ‘General d’Armee’ rules. The Battle of Gilly involved a larger French Corps (overseen by Napoleon himself), trying to thrust a blocking Prussian corps aside. We'd gamed three battles using the new rules last year ...

A fine spectacle of a game!
I'm told I often make a spectacle of myself....not that I can see it.
