Periods you always wanted to do.....

Post by ochoin »

....but probably never will.

I guess like many of you, I have several. There are all sorts of reasons, I suspect: non-availability of figures, finances, painting skill needed (Samurai!!).

For me, a stand-out one is the Spanish Civil War. Never attempted because I already do WW2 & it just seems too close to give up storage space & gaming time for.

What makes this decision hard is posts like this:

All 20mm, my scale, too.

Your "lost" period?

Zulu Wars.
Obviously like everyone else I have formative memories of Zulu! and always fancied doing it. Actually bought some figures but it was around the time we were doing the Mad Mahdi and I’d done enough wild native types. Sold ‘em. Now I can’t really face painting 500 Zulus - and they’d have to be 28mm.

Threads like this really don’t help though:

See, once you do Ottomans and Persians, some Austrians and Russians give you all sorts of interesting permutations.

28mm pointy sticks

20mm Romans vs Gaul

28mm ECW

To be fair I'd enjoy most periods if I could just be given all the stuff and then it was taken away again when if finished with it.

All you need is a 100 room palace and a dozen scantily clad Cambodian ladies to paint the figures.

I think that all Cambodian girls are born with the nack of the perfect blow job.
