Contrast Paints

Post by levied troop »

Found this link showing 3 possible base colours and their impact on every contrast paint, rather useful even if the difference between some of them is pretty slight:

I get lockdown, but I get up again.

I like the soft ivory base, or straight white myself. The GW contrast spray gives a beautifully smooth finish, but still with bite for the paint, which has its uses.

Interesting to see that Vallejo are launching their version of contrast paints "Xpress" and from the work done by those lucky enough to get advance access they look very good!

yep, hopefully avoiding the War Paints, they are watercolours so not totally colourfast issue.

Other than gaps in the colour ranges I was both impressed and happy with contrasts from GW, and in some cases on my second or third pot of some colours, and none have dried out.

They look quite good but the best effects I've seen seem to take as much effort as using normal paint...

Agreed. They’re not the be all and end all, but another useful tool in the paintbox (he says this have never used any type of contrast paint  )
