Yep, the old boxes had 40 hoplites, officer, piper, and decals - a box (or bag now) of the Victrix Carthos and Republican Romans will net you plenty of heads. Enough for 5 groups which is more than enough for allies or the core of a future Greek force.

I see that plastic tatt has raised its ugly head, have some of you no shame? As to the latest Lard garbage, I despair...50 figures is not wargaming, it's just figure fiddling at the margins! 😁

The plastics will do just fine. And who on earth is painting just 50 figures a side? You need way more options than that so you can play larger scale games as necessary. :) Not to mention that assembling a Spanish, a Numidian and a Gallic Army, some Greek hoplites plus some Carthaginians will give you a rather large Carthaginian army.

PS I think it's Clash of Spears or SPQR that bills itself as 40-50 figs a side. Possibly both.

The second Carthaginian war elephant, again by A&A Miniatures, with Warbases' MDF 80x100mm base and shield transfers from LBM. As before Phil painted the elephant and I painted the crew, the casualties and did the basing work.

Luverly Nellie. So the crew is a spear, javelin, and is the mahout carrying a dart?

I reckon there is a wounded Roming about to get squashed.

Wasn't the dart supposed to be for killing the elephant if it ran amok and threatened its own side?

(Not sure where I read that.)

Yes, it was a large spike to drive through the soft spot at the base of the skull and spine if the elephant ran amok.

One senses that this was not a lengthy career.
