I think that some of us are being too binary, automatically ascribing Undead to the side of Evil. They could be long dead heroes honouring an ancient pact to defend the good folk of Milltown. Halflings are all in favour of skeletal allies as they don't place any unnecessary demands on the rations.

That's true after all the Dead men of Dunharrow, in LoTR, fought for Aragorn at the Battle of the river Anduin to fulfill their oath to Isildur.
